European Commission publishes Final Report 'Study on Industrial Policy and Services'

The European Commission, DG Enterprise and Industry, published its Final Report on the ‘Study on Industrial Policy and Services’ within the context of the framework contract on Sector Competitiveness Studies (ENTR/06/054).

The Report comprises two parts. The first part provides the main background analysis of industry-service interactions and cross-cutting policy themes and issues, together with the Executive Summary.

The second part provides a review of six selected service sectors, including the private security sector, that are heavily used by industry, together with a synthesis of the main findings from the sectoral analysis. The six sectors examined employ around 14.7 million persons in the EU and have total revenues of about € 1,150 billion. At a rough estimate, € 230 billion represents procurement by manufacturing industry in Europe.

The Commission is expected to follow up on this Report with further consultations with the sectors concerned in 2009.
