CoESS closes EU-funded INTEL Project with high-level conference on tackling labour shortages

What do young private security workers expect from the sector—and what will it take to attract and retain the next generation of professionals? Join CoESS on 11 March 2026 for the EU-funded INTEL: NextGeneration Project Conference, where CoESS and UNI Europa will present the findings of a major international perception study exploring the views of young private security workers across Belgium, Germany, Croatia, Italy, the Netherlands, and Romania.

The private security sector is facing growing recruitment and retention pressures at a moment when Europe’s preparedness, resilience, and public security needs are more important than ever. To better understand how the sector can remain strong and sustainable, the INTEL: NextGeneration study collected insights from 2,000+ private security workers under the age of 35.

The results offer an unprecedented view into what motivates younger professionals today, including:

  • Work values and career expectations
  • Working conditions and job satisfaction drivers
  • Training needs and skills development priorities
  • What makes young workers stay—or leave—an employer or the sector

This conference will gather social partners, industry leaders, HR experts, researchers, and European Commission policymakers to discuss the study’s key findings and explore practical responses to the labour shortage challenge.

Participants will:

  • Hear the headline results from the perception study
  • Discuss concrete recommendations for the sector
  • Exchange best practices on people management and retention strategies
  • Explore how to strengthen career pathways and professional development
  • Highlight how stronger sectoral Social Dialogue can help deliver quality jobs across Europe

Whether you work in private security, policymaking, training, HR, or labour relations, this event is an opportunity to contribute to a strategic discussion on the future of a sector that plays a vital role in keeping Europe safe.
