On the occasion of the upcoming EU Commissioner Hearings in European Parliament, CoESS has published the European Security Industry's recommendations and commitments for the next EU legislative term, assembled under the headline "How to drive a secure, fair and competitive Europe?". Key aspect: the planned revision of the EU Public Procurement Directive, which should implement strategic objectives of the EU related to building a more secure and resilient Union; quality jobs and services underpinned by Social Dialogue; and higher levels of competitiveness through the promotion of innovation.
In the spirit of our EU Elections Manifesto 2024, CoESS commits to supporting the EU Institutions in delivering on strategic objectives of the EU, notably in three key areas :
- Building a more secure Union: CoESS emphasizes the need to work on all policies through a security-lens and to effectively transpose EU directives on Critical Infrastructure protection. We advocate for a better promotion of drone-based security solutions at EU-level and fostered public-private partnerships to combat crime. CoESS is committed to contributing to the announced EU security initiatives through EU Expert Groups, including the EU Ports Alliance, the EU Forum for the Protection of Public Spaces, and a follow-up to the EU Private Security Roundtable.
- Good jobs and quality services: CoESS is committed to promoting quality jobs and services through Social Dialogue. As EU Social Partner, we highly welcome a revision of the EU Public Procurement Directive that ensures fair competition and compliance with Collective Agreements. Through EU Social Dialogue, we will advocate for better working conditions, training, career development, and actively support efforts such as the Quality Jobs Roadmap.
- Higher levels of competitiveness: In the context of the Reports of Enrico Letta and Mario Draghi, CoESS will support the EU’s efforts to enhance the competitiveness of European industry – incl. through initiatives like the European Data Union Strategy, the EU AI Pact, and efforts to cut red-tape. To support competitiveness and innovation, the revision of the EU Public Procurement Directive, a coordinated 3G/5G sunset, vertical AI commercialisation and EU AI Act implementation, and a re-affirmation of the GDPR’s risk-based approach at EU-level are key for our industry.
We look forward to engaging with the newly elected European Parliament and welcome the EU Council’s Strategic Agenda 2024-2029 and the Political Guidelines for the next European Commission 2024-2029 of President-elect Ursula von der Leyen.
